The Most Rev. Mar Timotheos, AC, Ph.D, Ep.Gn. He was ordained a priest by the Patriarch of the Apostolic Johannite Church in May 2008 and installed as rector of the newly formed parish of Saint Uriel the Archangel. Tim lives in Marrickville with his beloved partner Anthony and a vast number of plants. He works in information technology research. Tim was raised in the Anglican church in Brisbane, Australia and served at the altar as an acolyte until his early twenties. He left the church and became an atheist in his early twenties, but retained an interest in spirituality and esotericism. In 2001 he moved to Sydney and became involved in Buddhist meditation and a community that was forming around the integral philosophy of Ken Wilber. He became deeply impressed by the range of spiritual teachers connected to the community, including Brother Wayne Teasdale, Father Thomas Keating, Genpo Roshi, Sally Kempton, Patrick Sweeney and Diane Musho Hamilton Sensei. He became motivated to pursue a spiritual path himself initially approaching Zen and Tibetan Buddhism, but eventually feeling drawn to the Christian tradition in which he had grown up. Through a series of coincidences his search ended at the Apostolic Johannite Church and a conversation with His Eminence, Mar Iohannes IV about pursuing a vocation to the priesthood. He understands his role to be partly that of a spiritual coach and advocate, rather than as a teacher. The spiritual journey is a personal one, but a priest can play a role in helping the seeker to notice blind spots and avoidances and to find resources and assistance and in simply cheering from the sidelines. Bishop Tim is available for home and hospital visits, for confession and for spiritual guidance. He can be reached at mar.timotheos@johannite.org
